Moving-in checklist for tenants
A practical checklist for your first days in a new rental home.

Before move-in day - Read your tenancy documents and keep a copy - Arrange contents insurance for your belongings - Plan how you will get the keys and at what time
On move-in day - Go through the inventory carefully and note anything that does not match, with photos - Take meter readings (gas, electricity, water) and photograph them - Find the stopcock, fuse board and boiler controls, your home handbook shows where they are - Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
In the first week - Set up energy, water, broadband and council tax accounts in your name - Check bin collection days - Report anything that is not working as soon as you notice it
